Churnet View Middle School

Welcome to Churnet View Middle School a happy, thriving community school where children are given every opportunity to flourish. The children here are a credit and we are passionate about ensuring every child benefits from their education. We endeavour to foster an increased awareness of environmental issues and develop caring and responsible attitudes towards each other and towards our local community.

The learning environment is inclusive, supportive and inspiring in helping children to prepare for their learning journey ahead and to develop a love of learning and to recognise that this is a lifelong activity. Our broad, balanced and rich curriculum offers specialist teaching in well resourced classrooms with the very latest technology to enhance the learning experience. We constantly strive to incorporate new technologies and learning ideas into lessons. Breakout Days enrich our taught curriculum and foster the acquisition of personal, learning and thinking skills. We offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities both before and after school as we consider learning outside the classroom to be an essential part in developing leadership and life skills as well as boosting confidence and self-esteem.

Our aim is that our pupils will leave us as confident young people who can act independently, are able to make informed choices and with a zest for learning. The strong pastoral care system helps us to teach self-discipline and respect for oneself and others. Our ethos prepares our youngsters to leave us with the skills, knowledge and understanding they need in order to become successful, confident, responsible citizens. Our mission statement reflects this core purpose “We will create, for everyone, an environment of opportunity within a culture of success”. Ofsted April 2013 judged us to be a good school with outstanding Leadership and Management. “All groups of students make good and sometimes outstanding progress from their low starting points. They are excited by their learning and are keen to do well.” I am immensely proud of what we are trying to achieve at Churnet View Middle School and of its pupils, staff and many outstanding achievements. We are a learning school and we place our pupils at the centre of all we do.
