Appointment of Executive Principal

Dear Parent / Carer

The Leek Federation was formed in September 2012. It is a Hard Federation of three schools; Churnet View Middle School, Leek High School and Westwood College. The Federation has one Governing Body, which is the Governing Body for all three schools. Since this time the governors and staff have been working hard to align all of the policies and procedures in the schools so that they now function, in many respects, as one school.

During this period the senior staff of the Federation have been the Executive Principal, Mr Keith Hollins (the former Headteacher of Westwood College), Mrs Clarissa Williams who is the Federation’s Business Director, and the three Headteachers of the individual schools, who are Mrs Julia Turner at Churnet View Middle School, Mr John Spencer at Leek High School and Mr Richard Hey at Westwood College.

During the autumn term 2014, Keith Hollins announced his resignation as Executive Principal, effective from September 2015. It is his intention to continue to work in education in a consultant capacity. The governors decided that they would, therefore, seek a replacement Executive Principal as this is clearly a vital role within the Federation.

I am delighted to be able to inform you that we have recently appointed Mr Andrew Shaw to be our new Executive Principal, from September 2015. Mr Shaw has considerable experience as a school leader. He has recently been working for the Department of Education, in a variety of high profile roles, has worked as a consultant on school improvement for academy chains and for many years was the CEO and Executive Headteacher of the Wigmore Academy Chain in Herefordshire, which contained Nursery, Primary, Secondary and Special Schools. He also led the Wigmore Teaching School Alliance and is a serving National Leader of Education.

We believe that we have been fortunate in being able to appoint a candidate of Mr Shaw’s calibre to the post and look forward to working with him in the new academic year.

Finally I would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents and carers for your continuing support for our schools and to also ask you to note the link to our new Leek Federation web site which can be found at http://www.leekfederation.org.uk

Yours sincerely

Ms Mandy Bennett
